Contentment and happiness can be found in the worst of situations.
Read Epicetus.
It will help you in accepting your lot in life.
Happiness is what brings you pleasure. Sad but hat is all it is.
The question is: "What brings you pleasure?"
If everything you want costs a lot then "No" you will not find happiness in ordinary pursuits. Your happiness reguires that you earn a lot of money and that is not ordinary. If on the other hand you can be happy with a hamburger, fries and a coke, MacDonalds has a meal for you.
It is just that simple.

this is exactly in what happiness is found, I believe. In a book I read, called "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance", there was an excellent point made about this. It said how too many people are not really living "in the moment" and this is why they are always chasing after an imaginary happiness, However if they just focus on what they are doing moment by moment, and learn to appreciate it for what it brings, then happiness becomes reality. When you climb a mountain, do not be concerned with reaching the top, which is what most people are only concerned with, pay attention to the mountain itself, to what it means to you, to how you and it interact and how you are sharing a unique moment in time and space that will never repeat itself again, as long as you live.

"Being happy isn't having everything in your life being perfect. Maybe it's about stringing together all the little things like a hug from a friend, or even getting a smile from a stranger. Making those count more than the bad stuff. Maybe we just get through it. And that's all we can ask for. "

If you follow "less is more "and "under promise over deliver" definitely you Will be content.
If you control your ego, and stop making comparison with others achievements you will be happy. If you chase happiness never you will get, but if you sit quietly it will come and sit on your shoulder like a butterfly.

I guess in this life happiness means friends, love, family... but i'm sure that actually it's much more than that. In this world and with our "little" mind we can't figure out what it really means. Maybe someday we'll find it out... in another life.
