Microsoft has a program called streets and trips. This program will help map your journey, give you turn by turn directiosn, tell you how long it will take to get there, and calculate the total cost of the trip. IE gas and tolls. If your stopping along the way, it can also help you find hotels in the area where you're stopping. I used it to map a route from Pennsylvania to Alabama with an overnight stop in Virginia.

If you know the "miles per gallon" your car gets, divide the distance by MPG and add about 10% - this should be a safe number of gallons. Then multiply by $/per gallon to determine cost.
