Pros:

It would stop worthless programs that destroy harmless ditch weed that is in some states because it used to be grown commonly.

Smoking weed would no longer be a crime.

Growing Hemp would help our farmers and establish a new billion dollar industry that has applications in paper, cloth, biocomposites, fuel, etc.

Cons:

Of the drugs, marijuana is #2 in the number of vehicle accidents that are caused by marijuana by high school seniors in 2001 in the US. It wasn't far from being #1. If this idiocy continues after legalization, marijuana will promptly be made illegal again after the thousands of vehicle accidents per week happen.

Marijuana carries a risk of dependancy that is lower than alcohol but is very definitly there. Despite claims to the contrary marijuana has addiction problems in a noticable minority of users.

There is a large risk that the government won't be able to control this as a recreational drug the way they do with alcohol or tobacco.

Only in the ideal world would crime be decreased for certain. In reality, we don't know.

Legalizing dope wouldn't change crime rates cause you see, things would level themselves out because yes it would be legal so people couldn't get arrested but then again it's addictive so maybe people would get real desperate if you know what I mean. But it also depends to what point it's legalized... I wouldn't recommend it except for maybe medical remedies but yeah wouldn't oppose it either it all comes down to a personal point of view!!! Keep in mind it doesn't have the same amount of potency it had 30 years ago. Instead the potency is worst so yeah that comes into factor!!!

Yeah it would....all those smokers would not be charged with possession and the dealers would not be charged with possession with intent to distribute. That would knock a lot of crime charges off the books. Further, it would take pot possessors and dealers out of jail (and there are plenty in jail with repeat offender laws and mandatory sentencing guidelines), making room for those who ought to be in them.

It would also affect crime resources--cops would not be wasting their time on dime bag sellers and buyers in the street, meaning they could go after other criminals--so indirectly it might also make police resources better used and affect more serious crime...

Right now we have murders going unsolved but plenty of pot busts....seems topsy turvy to me, I'd rather see them work on the murders.....

I think it would free up a lot of court rooms across the nation. I don't say it's good for you, but I believe it should be a personal choice. This country is hypocritical in this area. We allow alcohol to be sold, with parking lots next ot the establishments who sell it in a glass, but we don't think people should drive drunk. I think alcohol is a much more dangerous drug than pot, and it is everywhere.

Yes, it would lower the crime rate as many people are arrested for this seemingly benign crime that otherwise are law abiding citizens.

it is not addictive, and those who are dumb enough to drive under the influence of it would do that whether legal or not.
the reason it is still illegal is that the government makes to much money on it now, if it was legal everyone would grow there own

It would increase the chances of my family being killed in a car crash from some dope head behind the wheel

If it was legal not as many people would smoke it. People would start doing other drugs more. You wouldn't get in trouble for smoking weed anymore..

Yes. There would be less "crime".
I don't smoke marijuana.
But I see no harm in allowing others to do it.
I feel it should be socially controlled, similarly to how we control alcohol.

Why you think so,when a drug is used in small quantity it's help full ,but when it's used as drug ,it's very harem full.So when it is controlled it will help to stop crime.
