You are helping other people with their queries. Just sharing knowledge can sometimes feel good. Plus, you're expanding your own knowledge base.

First of all, congratulations for asking the question which almost 99% of the participants wonder or ask at some point of their time in Y!A.

Secondly, if someone asks you that what is the point of going to school, college, and university and so on? These are learning places and people learn in a somewhat regimented set-up. In Y!A, there is not such a structured set-up, though you have to abide by the Community Guidelines and Yahoo! TOS.

Thirdly, the more you are deep in your schooling and college education, the more likely are your getting 'wise' and going for attaining better education. In here, once you get the feel of its workings, you are almost hooked up like you do when watching several types of TV shows or reading Books or manic for any of the sports events. What is the point of hitting a ball or cork across the net, perpetually, sometimes going over 3 hours at a stretch?

Fourthly and lastly, like the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs (Dr. Abraham Maslow coined the term “Self-Actualization” as the pinnacle in the hierarchy of human needs.) says, you start charity thingy, helping others with good answers at the fag-end of your venture.

PS. for those of you who said “helping others” is the motto, please do not take offence, but in my view it is the last thing of motivation for sticking with Y!A, in above noted hierarchy-order.

It isn't a game, it is an attempt to prevent persons from doing nothing but ask questions, without providing any answers. The system doesn't work, because people can earn the priveleage of asking questions (earn points) by giving ANY answer, even a load of nonsense. The system is meant to be an encyclopedia of advice, a knowledge database. Unfortunately, it appears to be populated mostly by immature idiots.

It doesn't mean nothing at all indeed, but it can actually be useful sometimes... If you really want to know things, just ask and maybe someone who's serious about it can give you a good answer.

In some of the categories there are actually some mature folks who give good answers. In other categories there seems to be nothing but trash. So it's up to you, do you want to participate for whatever reason.

It is for those who are really looking for advice or answers to questions that other may have knowledge of. It is for those who like to really help other people if they can in this format.

This is not for everyone.

Points are just one thing, I love helping people and them saying that was the answer they needed. It is about being nice and contributing to society.
