Not at all. Now I’m not saying war is good, but the "western" mode of war does fuel technology.
There is hardly anything modern that didn’t come about as a spin-off of some development originally discovered by those attempting to achieve an advantage over an advisory in war. Electronics, Communications, hey, even TVs are a spin off of radar research. Then there’s a host of synthetic materials such as man made fibers, plastics, alloy metals, metal casting, large numbers of other manufacturing techniques, and just about everything else that came about through people trying to make weapons faster cheaper and more effective. Wars just speed up this natural process by the need to stay ahead of ones opponent. Human technology wouldn’t be much past the stone age if we hadn’t been fighting for thousands of years. Now I’m not saying we wouldn’t be better off, it would just be real different. Look at what happened to the Native Americans. They were doing fine until the Europeans arrived with their technology.

short answer: business Revolution. many stuff in western europe slowed down progression, possibly feudalism, the church, the plague, little ice age, etc. besides the undeniable fact that, imagine the progression made at the same time as human beings first all started coming up cities. there have been a good number of key improvements--like the printing press. firearms. navigation. It wasn't merely the previous 2 hundred years. it is authentic that there have been extra quick progression created from vaguely round 1860 to excellent this second. It also makes a huge difference in case you look on the history of multiple cultures and look previous western europe.

Larry R has a point....
BUT....if you took all the effort that created war toys, equipment, etc., and had channeled it into constructive work, (look at Ford and the production of cars, the industrial revolution, etc.) and bettering life, we might be a bit farther advanced than we are now!
At least that's my belief....because when you're searching and researching for the betterment of life itself, and the people who live that life....you seem to be a bit more driven and dedicated...and conscientious.
