When you think about it, it may be a good idea. Revert to the Monroe Doc tine for a time, rehash the thinking in U.S. foreign policy initiatives Take time to straiten out the whole internal mess and start over again.

The U.S. is a great country but all of it's foreign policy is based on it's own vital interests. Other countries do this as well ( notably France) but if that is the excuse, then the U.S. is simply a follower and not a leader.

Imagine how much greater the country could be with a more enlightened foreign policy which looks out for the good of the world rather than what's good for the U.S. only.

Assuming we would survive without any protection, all in all we would likely have the same problems. Problems of any size for any institution is rarely monies - particularly in this country. It is the attitudes of the population as well as the leadership. Waste and political agenda and corruption will still be there. Until there is pride in our nation, wisdom in all levels of leadership and respect./responsibity for each other the same problems or worse would prevail.

Check your history before WW1 and WWII. Isolationist policies were popular then. Americas attempt to stay out of the worlds problems only let them get bigger. Hitler could have been stopped when he first started. Might have saved millions of lives

America cannot survive on its own. It would be great if we could, as you said the money squandered there would serve a better purpose here, but unfortunately it will never happen.

you have to realize that though America has plenty, there is also plenty they import from other countries...what would happen is that like all other countries that lose out on what America has to offer, America will lose out on what other countries has to offer.
