Conflicts within countries?

I need ideas on conflicts which have arisen within a country. I have to investigate countries that have experienced civil strife. Ideas are needed and so are opinions on topics below:

I'd go with Rwanda. The international community reacted in various stages to what went on there. We had to answer the questions regarding why it happened and why other nations didn't react more efficiently to what was happening there. It raises larger questions of isolationism, world peace, the value of an African nation, etc.
