My version of Word (2003) has a columns function and I remember previous versions as having it too. Go to 'format' (along the top) then 'columns' where you get to choose how you want to lay them out. They're tricky to work with though - have to finish one column before you start the next (or make the prog think you have by using 'space' if my memory serves) and when you alter spacing in one you find it alters all the others too. But perfectly possible - I have produced documents using this method.

Actually MS-Word does indeed allow you to create columns/Rows for tables and also graphs. How I know this is because I use columns in Microsoft Word at work everyday and have been doing so at Jobs I've held for a very long time (years).

But the best program is probably Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Works Spreadsheet. Both already have the Columns made for you and you just enter the data into the field. Much easier.

MS Word does have a column function. On the toolbar, go to FORMAT; then down to COLUMNS. When you click COLUMNS, you have the choice of the # of columns you want, their width, and how far you want them spaced apart.
