that is an interesting question. i have always wondered the same thing. but scientificaly thinking. if the entire universe were to collapse back into 1 tiny little area than it would be like one nearly infinately powerful black hole.(infinately is imposible, but i cant think of any numbers that could accurately account for the density and gravitational pull.) and it may stay like that forever. since nobody was around to witness the first big bang, nobody can really say if every bit of matter and energy in the solar system would need to be there. for all we know that is what caused the first big bang. but since we dont know for sure. anything is possible.

Last I heard, the Universe is expanding and in fact the acceleration of the universe is increasing.

So I don't think you need to worry about a collapsing universe.

At least ours is expanding and accelerating.

I'd be more worried about the North Koreans and the middle east situation!!

Considering the fact that in the word universe the prefix, uni, means one there is only one universe. If you meant, can we leave this galaxy before it collapses, yes , sometime in the future we will be able to, but since there is only one universe it would be impossible to leave it.

The way things are going, the universe will leave us long before we collapse, I muse.

For me no, do you know why? Because it is already our destiny to die at all. Even though you escape the destruction here on earth, well, you will die at all because the universe will also collapse...
