our lifestyle has been made possible because of oil.

we are causing the climate, our water supply, our air supply to be irreversibly modified and unsuitable for life support.
we are genetically modifying ourselves with the increasingly unnatural electromagnetic stresses we create.

we pollute everything vital to our health from our use of oil in our daily lives.
your children's future looks very scary.

how can we smarten up and change this?

can you list ways to reduce this and change our lifestyle?

Drive less, set the thermostat higher in the summer, lower in the winter, keep the lights off. Isn't this obvious? Or are you talking in general terms? Educate the public on energy saving devices like hybrid cars, flourescent lights, and so forth. Unfortunately, most people don't give a poop and gas prices will have to reach 6 or 7 dollars a gallon before anything useful is done.

1. Refuse to buy cars. Use bicycles instead. If that isn't feasible, use LPG or electric or hydrogen fuel.
2. Abolish the internal combustion engine.
3. Switch to biofuels, solar, wind. Maybe we'll have to slow down and drive less, but that's better than not driving at all. Brazil is 100% self-sufficient using biofuels and very little oil.
4. Move our homes underground, where it's always a steady 60 degrees six feet under, and thus radically reduce our airconditioning and heating costs.
5. Stop using wood for housing.
6. Stop all oil imports from the Middle East.
7. Stop eating beef. We use lots of energy to pump water, irrigate lands to feed cows to feed us.
8. Stop all transport of oil in tankers from anywhere. Each country to develop self-sufficiency in energy sources.
9. Eliminate the home2work2home commute by having everyone who can work from home over the internet and phone.
10. Eliminate all laundry-drying machines and use the sun and wind the way most of the world does.
11. Eliminate all oil-based lubricants (motor oil, etc.).
12. Make people pay a fine for being overweight.
13. Eliminate all gas-power rockets, airplanes, ships.
14. Start a new civilization based on harmony with nature, stewardship of our resources, and peace on Earth.

Simple things like limiting your trips to the mall can help. People jump into their cars too often and go nowhere important. Using public transportation where available can also be a great help. Those who can should walk to the local store for items instead of driving 5 miles to pay a few cents less for a few items. Car pooling has immediate impact on consumption. I personally think we should spend at least two days a week without using the car. Think how much could be saved if the whole country forgot about a car for one day. Instead of keeping track of how much fat we lose how about contest to see who can put the least mileage on their car?? Putting rationing cards out for fuel and limiting what can be bought could be a Short term solution. I think giving everyone an allotment of cheap gasoline ( current pricing) and making it possible to buy additional fuel for an inflated price, Like double could reduce demand. Giving tax breaks for buying hybrid vehicles and the government picking up some changeover cost to manufacture them should also be done.

1. Sell the car - use public transport, bicycle
2. Turn off all/any electrical appliances/lighting not in use
3. Use water sparingly (eg. don't let tap run when brushing teeth - use a glass of water to rinse)
4. Refuse all kinds of carrier-bag (paper, plastic) supermarts supply; use your own bag
5. Buy fresh foodstuff from fresh market; avoid processed food in cans, bottles, etc
6. Abstain from canned, bottled, packaged drinks

Difficult to change lifestyle because there really isn't any need to - therein lies the problem on a national scale.

Too bad we couldn't ride horses again. The amish I'm sure don't give a &@$! about the oil prices. But if i were to choose to ride a horse to town and back wouldn't there be some kind of mumbo jumbo to go through with the laws.

Walk everywhere (or swim if you're traveling overseas,) eat only local organic food (can't ship it on a truck,) use no electricity, use well water raised in a wooden bucket (no electric pump,) use nothing made of metal, plastic, or synthetic materials, take no pharmaceuticals...and basically revert to the Cro-Magnon man era.

well i wont give you any lists, because the oil is gonna be gone anyway in 40 years. man you gotta face that. What you're trying to do is to the fact that there is almost no oil!!! that is why we're looking for alternate stuff to use that our machines will still run. For example using hydrogen.
