Roundup kills plants down to the root but may need more than one application for plants which spread by root cuttings or have long creeping roots, such as ground elder, nettles, dock, horseradish, speedwell and so on.
It does not, of course, kill weed seeds and if there are seeds in the ground that emerge after application, they will have to be treated again.
To deal with ground elder and similar. Do not dig the ground. Apply Roundup when most leaves are showing. Wait till that lot has died. Very likely more leaves will emerge. Apply Roundup again. If ground elder persists amongst wanted plants, apply with a brush or spot applicator to just the weeds you want to kill.

Roundup resistance is a well known problem(google it)! I've had great success with an Ortho product called Weed-B-Gon. Been using it since it originally came out as weed-b-gon for southern yards(i.e. over 30 years). Once in the spring does it for the rest of the year. For really tough stuff like blackberries and bramble roses you need to paint it on full strength directly to the leaves (or diluted around stuff you want to keep).

I use Roundup and it's very effective.
Depending on what sort of weeds they are, some may need extra dose ..
My friend had to apply Roundup (without mixing it with water) directly on a particular weed once ..otherwise they won't die.
But if Roundup can't kill it, I doubt anything else will.

As Professional Gardener, the best weedkiller that I can recommend is mechanical. That is the Hoe or Fork.
By lifting their roots from the soil and leaving them on the surface of the soil where the sun and wind can kill them.
Warning to use substitute weedkillers such as bleech is illegal in the UK.

don't use weedkillers...
they're really duff, and bad news for our planet. They're kind of sad, more fun to go out there with hands and tools..
if you've got a bad area, cover it with oldcarpet, black bags, even newspapers weighed down with bricks...
that will take the light away, and you could plant somenthing through the plastic that will grow instead

Roundup is the most efficient weed killer out there. Whatever is growing back is growing back from seeds

You've got to yank them out! But if you don't want to, simply spray them with vinegar and they'll die. Then you'll just have to rip out dead weeds....easier than ripping out live ones.
