I think the government has a high opinion of themselves and that they have the right to boss the rest of us around, based on their assumption of moral and political superiority. However, I know many really thoughtful Americans who are ashamed of what the US does to other countries, and there are of course many who support their government. Did you know that the USA has the lowest rate of passport ownership in the entire Western World, which means they travel overseas less than anyone else and are therefore more inward looking and less aware of other cultures than might be healthy.

READ NOAM CHOMSKY, He's American and Jewish, he's also a brilliant critic of US domestic and foreign policy in the last 400 years since the founding of the American colonies. An example of a thoughtful American.

"Don't wanna be an American Idiot...." La la la.....

My country was dragged into a couple of world wars too, but its not a good idea to go round trying to be bang on time for the next one because you were late for the last two. Where were you in 1915 while my grandfather and uncles were getting shot at in Turkey and Europe, where were you in 1940 when my daughters grandparents were being bombed in London? Some of us jumped in to help straight away and we are not cowards. We even helped you drugged out Cowboys in Vietnam. But we're not going to help you any more. Especially not as now that you are going around determined to start a new world war with your mates the Israelis. My Jewish friends in my country are embarassed to be Jewish right now. Its not their fault, but I feel sorry for some of the clowns on this page, because they are part of the problem. I blame their schooling system, it turns out a nation of braindead gunheads. Put the guns away boys and learn a little bit about other cultures. Then you won't have anything to answer for. I think our friend who posed the qusetion was trying to be friendly and give you fair warning. But guess what, the world would be a much safer place without you clowns interfering everywhere. BTW you only take all the resources and buy everything because you are greedy and as a nation you are overweight. You are 5% of the world's population and you consume 70% of the resources. Think about what the questioner is trying to tell you and don't be so sure of yourselves. The USA is the wrong team, and even your "Allies" hate you because you are bullies.

To the person below me, The US invaded Iraq in violation of UN resolutions and doesn't even pay its fees. Stop watching Fox and CNN. They don't know what truth is. What they present is spin.

I find it rather amusing how America is ridiculed for its stance as the worlds super power, though the USA is an Imperialist nation and is motivated by the means to obtain wealth and more power over the world it still is the only allie the world has when it comes down to it!

The Chinese are not far behind them on the world superpower ladder and it is a vicious nation dictated to under the bloodied fist of its murderous leader Hu Jintao. A nation, which has taken over Tibet and is in league with North Korea. The acts that the Chinese government has preformed on its own civilians and other Asian nations proves my point that we need the USA to protect us to a degree, the US though in control by an idiot is still the only nation that the world turns to every time a disaster occurs.

The fact that the USA gives billions in aid to 3d world nations is an account of what good it does even though we know that America never does something for nothing...I believe in the people and that they will fight back regardless of the republicans stronghold on the senate and administration.

After 9/11(which had nothing to do with Iraq) and the persistence of taking over the 3d richest oil resource in the world by the means of so called " liberation" proves that power is everything and anything can be done with it, I don't believe that bush has succeeded in obtaining a legacy other than to be hated by the world, he will leave nothing behind except a chapter in history Americans will be ashamed of in the long run.
The fact is we need them more than they need us! The US may be a bit of a bully but has a good heart under it all…

Yes, a great many of them seem to. Especially their leaders.
However, if Thomas L is anything to go by (see answers to your question elsewhere) we needn't fear people incapable of coherent speech all that much.

There's certainly no need to start fighting them - all the rest of us need do is refuse to buy American goods, watch Hollowood movies or cooperate with Washington in any way.

Oh sure, if only one (or maybe even two) countries did that, the US would probably dig up some (other) excuse and send the jets in - BUT... if many countries (European countries...!) did it, then the USA would not take long to become powerless.

They're running the world game, at the moment, but if the rest of us start playing some other game - well... then the US will be on the outside looking in... And, for that reason, the thing America fears - far more than anything else - is ISOLATION...!!!

Which is why we should give it to 'em...! We should ALL isolate the USA (the unwanted States of America) as soon as we can. And, for peace's sake, KEEP IT UP AND STICK TOGETHER WHILE DOING IT...!!!

I normally would be with this kind of thinking that we're bullies etc. But the reality is it's other countries that look to us for support, aid, money and defense. I think a lot of people would love to have another super power that was willing to bail out other countries, send their jobs over to them, buy all of their exports. I don't know where "u" are from (apparently a place where spelling and command of the English language is not a requirement for posting on Yahoo) but I would venture a guess that we saved your countries a s s at one time or another. So remmber tht & gd luck 2 u

A lot do. A lot don't. The more important question, however, is do other peoples believe America has the right to boss the world around? The answer here, except maybe for the UK and Israel, is an emphatic no. But at least the USA is a relatively benign new Roman Empire. But we would really need to worry when China becomes the new USA as it surely will within this century.

America hasnt been bossing anyone around. You can thank your merry UN for that, where european nations have the biggest pull. Even we in all our super powerness have to answer to the UN and gain their approval before wiping our asses.

Please please please try to get your facts from reputable news companies from home and abroad, and NOT from the fat guys that sit at the bar with you and pretend to understand current events.

Oh better yet, pay attention in school, they actually cover basic world politics in a special class called "global history".

People hate America because we're bigger and have a better quality of life. We get bitched at for action just as much as inaction. There isnt anything we could ever do to please anyone. Either we dont send enough money for aid, or we dont fix the problems that are too scary for the rest of the world.

Look at North korea, we got busy trying to uproot terrorists, thinking the world might actually function okay on its own for a little while... and in the mean time NO ONE could manage to do ANYTHING about mr. nuke happy sqinty eyes over there. They had to come running back to us begging us to help fix it.

But then again, that makes us the bad one.

Its amazing how reason can escape the majority.

Yes, we do. We are the only nation can that project our political policies, ideas and way of life to the rest of the world. Defend it, back it up and flex our muscles with the strength of our military.

We are one nation. Under God. Indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

Now, quit crying.

To all those cry baby nations out there.
There is no secret to becoming a super power. All you have to do is xerox (or copy) the United States of America's Constitution.
Learn it. Live it. Love it.
And in 200 years, you uglies can join the super power club.

Until then, go to the UN, stand in line and fill up a complaint form.

America views it's self as Big Brother when fighting the bully. America will always be the SUPER Power, we wouldn't settle for anything less, luck has nothing to do with it, skill and ability make more tangible gages. We face up everyday with millions of dollars in food, medical and financial aid for poverty stricken countries that never even say thank you. We've gotten use to thankless assholes demanding help and services, then slapping the very face that feeds and helps them. I am a firm believer, NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED! SO get your facts together before you rattle self righteousness you hypocrite.

Its not the Americans who have to decide whether they want to boss around or not but the rest of the world who has to decide whether they want to be bossed around or not.
Most Americans are ignorant to this fact and they are least bothered so long as they are not affected by it.There are a lot important issues in US which have to be dealt with but the govt is busy diverting the attention of the tax payer to international issues.Hurricane Katharina opened the inefficiency of the govt wide but it was very clearly taken off the national issue list. 9/11 ripped apart the failure of the intelligence dept but that was cleverly masked with immediately going in for a war. It is for the people of America to decide whether they can live with the amount blood on their hands.
Each missile, bullet or grenade that the American army is using to kill Innocent civilians through out the world is brought by money a common Tax payer is paying in America.Think about it.

Oh my God, you are so right, what a bunch of Clangers they really are. The consiquence of their actions has been seen throughout the world and they really don't care, reading the comments set out above.
The Americans will pay for their actions, they are a country slipping further and further into debt and the only resource they are going to be left with is the fat from their lardy arses.
I totally agree with you, and the day will come, but until they learn from the consequences of their bad mannered attempts to use their own form of international terrorism disguised as peace making, they will carry on destroying the rest of the world.
The only right the American People have is to trial their President who is himself an International terrorist.
