The marketing used by the music industry targets mostly white suburban teenagers since they have been found to provide more stable income. This is evidenced by programming on MTV and commercials for "hip-hop" related merchandise. Rap is now the voice of a generation given its anti-establishment, "hardcore," and controversial expressions, just as rock-n-roll was in the 50's and 60's. When I was a teenager, I listened to rap and hated rock. When I got older, I began to see that life is not all about drugs, guns, and "ho's." And to really be something in life, you've got to put forth a lot of effort. I also realized that if I try to live like these guys are telling me, then I won't have much to look forward to except trouble. Come to think of it, how many rappers actually live like they say on an album and are around long enough to retire?

First of all that's not true. I live in the west coast and mostly all the black people out here like all music not just a certain kind and definatly not just metal rock (or whateva its called). But white people like rap (which is different than hip hop) because it's made for them. It's about "bling" and "*****-es" and "thugs" the way white people see us as being and it's entertaining. Black people don't feed into that so we listen to real hip hop, like underground and stuff they don't play on the radio, stuff ya'll will never know about. But until you go take tally of everyone in the US and what kind of music they like, don't take your brief survey of what ever hay fever, back door, counrty azz, suburban place you live in and think it reps the whole nation. K?

It's just a matter of preferance really isn't it. You're right the vast majority of black people don't like heavy metal. That's just the way things are you know. Come to think of it I think the only black group that comes even close to playing metal would be Living Color. But they sound good. Charlie Pride was the only black man to sing country music.

under no circumstances. surely, a black man or woman performs in one among my renowned loss of life metallic bands, Suffocation. And he's astounding on drums. Oceano is yet another one among my favorites and that they have a black man or woman as a vocalist, he makes it sound so actual, surely he's between the final loss of life metallic/ Deathcore vocalists i've got ever heard next to Mitch Lucker. no longer something incorrect in any respect with liking metallic and Rock. it is extra desirable than people who hear to Rap and act like "the ghetto" is a thank you to circulate. it is style of only prejudice to declare you won't be able to like metallic because of the fact your "black." howdy, what the heck is variety for besides? Welcome to the metallic family my chum m/

Well, I'm white and I like metal and alternative....I don't think that a persons skin color has anything to do with what music they listen to.

What?!! I didn't think a person's skin color was a criteria for what type of music they listen to.
