we are totally infatuated with ourselves...
that's what makes money for all the advertising companies. people trying to look good.
BUT all that advertising makes people think about nothing but getting better looking = self-centered.

Indeed. But i couldnt deny that the 'higher' society was all about the appearance in, lets say, barrocco. Today all the society is more or less equal, and we all are now doing everything to look the best we can. I think it is so because we are not able to express ourselves in any other way so all the world knows about us. I dont think that anyone, who has written his name in world's history due to scientiffic discoveries is worrying about his/her appearance. And the ones who did so because of their appearance.. Poor them I'd say.
The other point is that it helps to get attention. For me, a very histrionic person, it is one of the many ways to get attention. And I enjoy it. And I'd spend as much money/time to my looks as i do now even if i get a part of teh human brain named afte my name - like Broca, Exner or others. So, i can imagine, that many young girls fall into traps of 'normal appearance' because they need attention or they dont imagine what else they could seek for in this world. I think therefore lithuanian secondary education is very good - everyone is expected to be and educated to be a genius. So the number of 'trapped' girls here is so small that it is even invisible.

its an illness i work in the beauty industry and i see young girls hating themselves and trying to make themselves feel better to fit in and get guys to like them or whatever it maybe. i think there is way to much focus these days on looks and not enough on brains and personailty i think its really time for a change

to be ego centric is what our society crams down our throats by the use of commercialism and peer pressure. as for being "normal"? normal is a cycle on a washing machine
