In the first place, gender roles are determined by society. There is no rule that men must go out and work and earn money whereas women stay at home and look after the family, or worse, are sex objects and merely procreate. These are all determined by society and have become what we know as the "norm".
But now as society progresses we see in many instances people breaking out of traditional gender roles. There are many independent career women out there in society, in high ranks even.
My personal opinion is that there is nothing wrong with women going out to work, and all, but they should not neglect their primary role of homemaking (please I dont just mean procreation here).
Hope I interpret your question right.

"Must", no. I know some men who are so amazing with their kids that they should be at home with them every day. I know women who could run the entire company without batting an eye. I think the problem is that we are reluctant to let go of stereotypes across the board and let the people with the appropriate skills do the job.

Many times without open communication, people fall into roles in a relationship.
If they talk things out, they may discover that they are both frustrated in what roles/tasks they want to take on.
I don't believe in MUST in social situations such as romantic relatiolnships. Every person is different, so every relationship must also be.

Do you mean men work and women stay home with the kids? I really do think that's the best way...but not the only way.

No. I think people who have a great idea should step up to the plate and take up the helm. Machismo doesn't work and it's a proven fact.

I'm a non-conformist.I believe you can be or do whatever you
choose.I don't like being type-cast for anything.People can pick
& choose who & what they want.I hate it when someone says
boys should...or girls should...
Ditto for men/women.
