Pole position is the person with the fastest time in qualifying. At most (maybe all) U.S. tracks, there is a tall sign with numbers on it. The numbers represent each car and the car with the fastest time (or the leader) is on top of the scoring pole.

Easy. Because if you go to a race track, race positions are displayed on a large marque "pole". The top position, #1, is the pole position.

the first person to qualify is on the pole cause he's the only one that qualifiedif the second person was faster then he'd take over the pole spot.........just wondering if this was a trick question or not......lol

the winner stands on the pole to recieve the trophy . that is why a winner is said to be the pole position.
