Why is the "Gay Pride Parade" in Portland, Oregon on Fathers' Day?

And, how & why did the city leaders allow Fathers' Day to be chosen as the day for the parade?
How could I go about changing the date of the parade?
I'm not seeking to ban the parade, just change the date of it.

Father's Day only effects a certain section of the population. "Gay Pride Parade" also only effect a certain section of the population. So why would anyone care if they are on the same day?
