It depends on whether you plan on doing the work yourself or taking it to a mechanic. The alternator itself will be $60-$120 depending on whether its new or rebuilt. Something like that would call for at least a couple of hours to replace. Mechanics charge anywhere from $80 to $100 per hour for service. So if you are planning on taking it to a mechanic for replacement I would say plan on spending $300-$400.

I would also recommend replacing your battery at this point. If you havent replaced it very recently. I have found in my experience that when you have a problem with either one. The other follows shortly thereafter. When one goes bad it puts alot of stress on the other. (Battery and Alternator). It will save you alot of stress and grief.

Very Expensive!...if You walked into the Wrong Garage & asked the very Same Question! lol

Go to one of the National Auto-Parts Franchises & You'll get the Best Deal for the Alternator itself! ( Ask Them who they'd recommend to install it...Many Fix-it-Type guys leave business cards & deal with them often. )...Even if you have to go to a Repair Shop - They won't make their big Mark-Up on the Part!

Some of these Franchises even provide tools & you can change it yourself - right on their Lot! ( My 1st Time - a Serviceman from the shop came out to my car with me...pointed to the bolts I had to loosen & I had it done in 10-15 minutes. )

Cost me about $50 for a re-conditioned alternator...Compared to $125 - $200- plus @ a repair shop. ( Still working 5 Years Later! )

Very???? Obviously that guy hasn't replaced many alternators. I just replaced the alternator on my g/f's pontiac and it cost me 29 bucks. Do it yourself. It's pretty easy.

Less than $100 if you do it yourself. Might have to buy a wrench or 2 if you don't have one. might have to move coolant reservoir out of the way or something.
