People are evil. They have to use something to justify the horrible things they do, and because God doesn't voice His objections, they feel they can use Him. Then, if they get away with evil, or they win the wars they start, it's God's "will". What they don't seem to understand is that if you're sneaky enough, or if you're strong enough military-wise, you will win.
I think God just watches. He doesn't really take sides, though He favors some over others.
And people never cared about each other, except perhaps at the very beginning. There are a few here and there who still care...but they're few and far between.

One of the greatest mistakes we do is comparing to others: it's easier to judge others for smth than realise one's own mistakes.
One who does such things does not KNOW God. Would you consider yourself guilty of awful things other people who do not know you have done in your name? (if they knew you... then you might hold some part of the guilt)
Don't look in the neighbour's yard: before you tell him to clean it up, you should better check your own. If we're talking about God as Christianity sees Him, then He doesn't ask us to convert people or make them good: He's asking us to be, ourselves, like Him, to love. The rest just comes from itself.

When money became involved. Oh yea, and the natural instict to become the most dominant race.
Or when idiots unite to royally f*ck themselves in the a**.
That usually follows with high military death counts.
