try a sports shop or failing that some underwear thats designed to hold thighs and tums in look very like cycling shorts i got a pair made by playtex that could pass for cycle shorts no-one can tell the difference

cycling shorts are not usually found on the high street anymore, but if you go to a cycling shop they can give you a variety of catalogues that may have some suitable for you. Also these days most cyclist wear full length Lycra trousers so maybe they'd look better and a bit more trendy!

Try Target. They have everything. I wear a 16-18, too. I sometimes buy men's clothes too but never tell anyone. No one ever seems to notice.
