Besides the fact that they brought supplies to the International Space Station, they also made a point of showing they could repair the shuttle while in space. Do you think they did this to show the rest of the world, in the face of a rising space program in China, that they still are the leading nation in space technology?

I'm not trying to create more problems for anyone. I agree with you that we needed this mission after all the bad things that have been happening with our space program lately. I just think they were making a bigger deal out of it than they usually do. I am as pro America as they come, so please don't mistake my question as a conspiracy theory. It is just an observation, and one in which I wanted another opinion.

I think they're trying to show EVERYBODY that they are still on top. The U.S space program has been dealt some pretty serious blows and I think it's great that we're back. I think we needed this mission. I think we needed to show the world just like in everything else that we do that we are the greatest nation on the planet and there no better place to live or be from. I hate when people take something awsome and try to turn it into some kind of government scam. Aren't there enought problems with our government without some jacka** trying to create more? Just a thought.

4th of july boost off

Boosting the american moral is nasa's number one misson.

Number two misson is to put us into the worlds spotlight. lets say if another shuttles goes down witch it will the world will feel sorry for america so its a win win situation

Just like north korea showed us its "military might" with those pathetic pingdingdong missile tests

US will burn the shuttles just to score some political publicity

so whats the score now? i think is 2 down 3 shuttles to blow up.

Sounds about right.
I thought the drama leading up the the July 4th launch was a little contrived.

I hear NASA is always short on funding. Maybe this is a way to get people interested?

Could be. I wouldn't doubt it. But who knows, they're always up to something behind our backs.
