Graca Machel met Nelson Mandela through her late husband, the president of Mozambique. They kept in contact over the years and when Samora Machel died they grew even closer. Their mutual desire to improve the lives of all African children brought them even closer and they started seeing each other more on visits to charity functions. This led to their marriage.

They are not doing so good these days due to Nelson Mandela's health, but their love and respect for each other haven't been affected by any of this.
