What you ask is the subject of a three-year major history course, and people spend a lot of time with learning and reading about it during their studies. So, as much as I would like to answer your question, there is not enough time and space here to do it.
If you are really interested to find out, start with a foundation level book on the history of the Americas. Once you have read that, you can diversify and specialise, according to your interests. But it will need time to understand the history and culture of a nation and a double-continent.
I teach a course on the subject, and that has two parts of four months each. But it only focuses on the USA and her political and economical development. And I also wrote a book about it, which took nearly a year to write. So, give yourself some time and you will be satisfied with the answers you find by yourself.
