I've seen it (tar baby scene and all)- it's a wonderful movie. It is in no way racist, and I've spoken to african americans that agree with me. I love Uncle Remus! He's such a great character and you feel so awful for him when the kid's mother says he can't tell him stories anymore.

I only have this movie because I am in the process of obtaining every disney feature ever made. And yes, i know i'm a nerd.

And it isn't a U.S. release, i bought it on ioffer.

I saw it in theaters as a kid. It's a great film. I don't view it as being racist. It's based on the book "Uncle Remus Tales" which does have some potentially offensive material, but is not intended to be racist. Disney is just playing it safe. This is a part of American history that needs to be shared and out in the open. A friend of mine bought the DVD from Japan. It's an authentic Disney release.
