growing honey dew melons?

how do tell when a honey dew melon is ready to pick?any helpful websites?how to tell when ripe?this is my first year growing honey dew melons!actually it was by accident when i was drying my catalope seeds they go mixed in when the wind blew with my catalope seeds that i always dry a my own seed and grow!

The fruits will turn a paler green as they mature. It is hard to tell you the size, because it depends on the growing condition. Thump your melon with your finger is should sound dull, kind of a hollow sound. If it sounds firm they are not ready. This is tricky, just takes some experience.
Usually if you buy the seeds, the package will tell you the time needed for maturity, but since they are your own seeds you just have to experiment yourself with the thumping.
They also will smell ripe at the opposite end of the vine, this too takes a little experience, but it is always fun to learn.
