next month I'm going to the doctor and they are going to tell me i need a pap-smear... I don't want to do it (it would be my first one... but that's not why i don't want to do it)
I don't want to do it because I have a piercing that i do not want my mom to find out about
so is the doctor required to tell my mom that i have a piercing (I know that doctors can't relese information if the patient does not want them to.... but I'm underage and I was just wondering if the same applys) and if the doctor is required to tell would it make a difference if i took the ring out or not.

does she really have to be in the room... I mean I imagine I'll be uncomfortable enough without her there

Your doctor does not have to tell your mom about your piercing, and your mom has to leave the room if you ask her to. My mom was never in the room when I went for appointments in my teens, I just asked her to stay out. The best way is to never let your Mom get in the exam room, just tell her in the waiting room before you go in to see the doctor that you can go yourself, that you don't need her, and she should wait outside. If she insists on coming in, say you feel shy and you want her gone. If you say that in front of the doctor, the doctor should usher her back out the waiting room. If you're afraid your doctor might mention something casually to your mom after the appointment ("that's quite a piercing you're daughter's got there!") tell her that your Mom doesn't know about it, and you'd prefer she not mention it. Doctors are very good usually about protecting their patients' privacy. They are actually more discreet with teens a lot of the time, because they know there are lots of things teens don't want their parents to know! Getting a pap smear is an important part of women's health, so don't be afraid to get it, your Mom won't find out about your piercing.

That's a tricky question. I think the doctor will respect your privacy and not tell your mom. However, if the piercing is infected or done improperly that it could affect your sensation or ability to have sex or keep the area clean, the doctor may be obligated to address the situation. If you are underage you should wait for any more piercings until you are of age because it is illegal and possibly the place where you had the piercing may not be properly licensed if they were willing to pierce you without adult/parent approval.

1.) Your mother does not have to be in the room unless you request her presence.
2.) The doctor cannot tell your mother anything about your care without your permission.
3.) Doc may ask you to take the ring out to facilitate proper pap collection and testing. Depends; not always.
4.) Good luck.
