only if you consider choreographed wrestling a sport.
Personally I would never tell a wwe wrestler he was not a real athlete, but then I'm not fond of being slung around like a rag doll either.

Yes, without any shadow of a doubt. It's just that you don't know how you define sport.
All the moves are done for real. Wrestlers know how to make moves hurt LESS, but not how to make them stop hurting at all. If you get thrown off the shoulders of a big 6 foot 6 indivdual, you get hurt, no matter what you do. The weapons are all real (although tables tend to break people's falls more than worsen them). If someone gets up after a steel chair shot, it is because they are tough. Very ******* tough. Read Foley's autobiography.
The match outcomes are pre-determined. Wrestlers go in, knowing who will win, but responsible for arranging an entertaining match between them. This is the main skill involved in wrestling, working a match, whereby you make it have some semblance of a real contest while at the same time entertaining and fulfilling the already-decided outcome. It is not choreographed in the sense that many people think. Most of the action is ad-libbed. (spot-fests such as TLC matches are an obivous exception).
If Professional Wrestling were an olympic sport, then two people from the same country would face off against each other, and the judges would rate the match quality. The winner would be the country to put on the best match, becuase that's what the skill in wrestling is. Not throwing your opponent around, or winning, but making the match good. This is why Cena and Mark Henry both suck a huge amount of dick.
The titles will often go to the wrestler who is best at his job, just like in any sport. However, wrestlers who make the company money through merchandise (see: Cena Batista) will often get title reigns simply because it's good business sense and keeps the marks (people who think it's real and like the winners rather than the workers) happy.
Everyone who disagrees with me is unequivocally wrong.

No,several years ago so-called professional wrestling had to admit they were not a real sport when New York wanted to start charging them a gate tax that all sporting events are required to pay.You can also look at many of the TV listings for wrestling and they are listed under sports-non event.Besides how could anyone believe that crap is real.If I bash you on the head several times with a folding metal chair you are NOT going to jump right up and beat the crap out of someone like nothing happened.

I'm a former pro wrestler and I don't think pro wrestling is a sport, pro wrestling chooses who wins so that means it's not a real competition it's all set up, real sports don't choose who wins or loses so I think it's disrespectful to real fighters like boxing and mma to call pro wrestling a real sport

i circulate to initiate of with a question of my very own, why do you return right into a ingredient, waste your man or woman 5 factors to ask some thing so stupid? it is captivating, subsequently international Wrestling leisure. asserting that wrestling is pretend, is like asserting that it is not actual; in spite of the shown fact that the main appropriate term to apply could be scripted and pre-desperate. The WWE Wrestlers have sustained intense existence-threatening injuries interior the hoop, to entertain the followers. no longer all the strikes are, as you may say "pretend". there is no delicate thank you to fall of a 20-foot ladder and land on your back with no need harm. there is no delicate way for somebody to furnish a touch from the appropriate-Turnbuckle and for it to no longer harm. There are nonetheless actual tolls that it takes on genuinely everyone in touch in a wrestling experience.

As stated before me, it is pre-determined. However, the physicality is real. The pain is real. And wrestlers don't get time off. There is no off season like your precious little sports players. The work year round, busting their asses to put on a good show for all people, of all races, of all ages, all over the world. They deserve more merit that little basket ball players and baseball players in my opinion.

the title holders and all are plotted but the wrestling moves and all are done with technic. can say its real, but landed in such a way whereby theres sound and visual effects but nt much pain.
thou there are cases whereby accidents occur and injuries happen.
as for the blood, at the ring flaps, blades r hidden there. else sometimes referess pretend to ask if he's ok and pass him a small blade to slit their forehead. jus a small slight. yet again, there are cases whereby big wounds appear.
so..yup,call it sports entertainment.

For those of you that think wrestling is total bogus, you are wrong. Those men work long and hard to learn their moves and make sure they can preform them without injuring their opponent. Think of wrestling more in the terms of a soap-opera ballet.
