I have found a pile of black shiny eggs about 1/8 inch long in the garden grass, there could be 1000 of them. There are some ants around, picking them up. I though ants eggs were white so what are these eggs?

We don't want to disturb them unless they are something which will harm the fruit and veg garden (or us!)

Some species of ants eat eggs, especially spider ones. Your eggs might be those of a spider who lays her eggs in the grass, but I don't think they belong to ants because their eggs are always white.
