Beautiful thought. A billion lives could have been saved if no religion existed. Mankind would have made 1000 times more progress working together as one human race than playing mind games and politics and fights among people of different religions. There would be so much less stress.
As far as women degradation, it would stop to some extent. But I think, that problem also has its roots in the basic male-female dynamics. Therehave always been some men who think they are superior than women. Now a hispanic man degrading a muslim man degrading a muslim woman may not necessarily be able to pull that off on a black or white woman and vice versa. So one can argue degradation of women may be less because of religion.
I think religion was supposed to make humans of the same religion celebrate their own religion and make them happy. But the countereffect has been the hate of people among different religions.
Invention: After billions of years of human evolution, people settled in different parts of the world mate and families and communites are formed and religions are formed.
No one could have predicted there would end up existing so many religions that would be one the most deadliest scariest problems of the world today.
Thanks for the brain exercise at 4:30 am :)

My view is that religion was the predecessor to government. The Church ran the country. It was also used as a tool to take over other countries. The signs are still very visible in South America and Africa. Sometimes when I go to a African country and walk past a church I cant help but smile when I see a bunch of black people worshiping in front of a small statue of a white guy with blue eyes.
The beliefs are enforced by the daily rituals that we have to perform to confirm our faith.
Yes it is true that religion has been used to suppress woman, and help men dominate society. If you wish to see the reverse look into the Inca's History. There the woman ran the show. They were the land owners and so on. This made sense because when you passed land and possessions down generations you could be certain that the blood line was yours, whereas with men... there is room for confusion whether the child was yours or not...

Well, first off not every religion supresses women. I belong to a religion where women are revered.
Second, people are going to believe different things. The only way to have zero religion is to completely take away free will and free thought. 1984 anyone?
While yes, it would be nice if we would no longer have religious wars and intolerance, you can't blame the entire religion for one fanatic (or a group of fanatics). It would be better, to me, to have all faiths get along peacefully rather than have none at all.

It would help promote a more peaceful world because there would be one less thing to fight about. I'd be fine with everyone not believing in a god too. But, even without religion, the same people who cause problems now would find other ways to cause trouble.

Why just religion? We should make all sectarian thoughts non-existent in our mind first. Black-white, beauty-ugly, Capitalist-communist, indian-pakistani, strong-weak the list is endless. Can you do that first in your mind? Then the external influence of any religion on you will not be of any botheration to you. It is just another classification for people to arugue, fight and kill.
Then once you could and then all could eradicate all the sectarian divisions and fight, we will stop producing all weapons. Instead we will only produce medicines to treat deseases (more focused invesetment), Food and its proper distribution, better planned life style. More beautiful environment, free movement of people, Better and faster technological development for more comfortable living.. more birds' chirping all around...what not....the only sorrow then will be the thought of death but then since it is inevitable, a happy bye bye....(wow what a beautiful dream)

It would help......
Any humanitarian, religious or otherwise, should be able to understand that believing in the God man-made to serve political forces cause SO much harm, justifies SO much damage, rips at the fabric of our language and culture.
The maxim: "Believe in God" should be done away with--- you can't even conceive the thing anyway, at every limit, God is not that, God is opposite the opposite. Just give the ****** idea up.

it could precipitate horrors that we are going to no longer even think of. 1000's and 1000's have been killed interior the twentieth Century attempting to restrict faith. it is documented interior the latest e book with the aid of Dinesh D'Souza financial disaster 19 A license to Kill : Atheism and the Mass Murders of background. yet maximum of all, it is impossible. faith, even Christianity, is often inevitably secondary. The questions it solutions come from the human coronary heart. in case you have infants you understand those questions (approximately the place we come from, the place we are going, and what occurs whilst human beings die, what concerning to the somewhat undesirable issues i've got carried out and can't deny) How approximately I quote financial disaster a million from Plato's Republic. it is known of human beings on the different end of existence from infants -- just to disguise each little thing. For enable me inform you, Socrates, that as quickly as a guy thinks himself to be close to loss of life, fears and cares enter into his suggestions which he by no potential had before; the thoughts of a international below and the punishment that's exacted there of deeds carried out right here have been as quickly as a guffawing be counted to him, yet now he's tormented with the concept they could be authentic: the two from the weak point of age, or because of the fact he's now drawing closer to that different place, he has a clearer view of those issues; suspicions and alarms crowd thickly upon him, and he starts to mirror and look at what wrongs he has carried out to others. And whilst he famous that the sum of his transgressions is super he will many a time like a newborn start up in his sleep for concern, and he's crammed with dark forebodings. yet to him who's wakeful of no sin, candy wish, as Pindar charmingly says, is the type nurse of his age: ================ non secular questions and yearnings and strivings are component to what it is to be human. do away with the the non secular establishments, you initiate panic.

People would find something else to argue about, If we had no religions.
I'm sure the founders of the different religions thought their brands of beliefs would bring peace to the believers, but they failed to allow for any leeway in those beliefs
