Strumming is raking across a number of strings at one time. It is not necessarilly all 6 of them thou. This is how chords are played.
Chords are a combination of 3 or more notes played at the same time. Some chord combinations only require 3, 4 or 5 strings and playing more may not be proper. Normally, four or more strings are required.

strumming is normally when you play all six strings on the guitar, instead of plucking it. you just let the pick or your thumb slide down all six strings. you strum an A chord, but you pluck an A note.
rhtyhm and background guitars normally strum.

It's the act of using the pick to rake across all six strings as opposed to using the pick to make individual notes sound.

It's when you move your pick (or fingers) over the strings to sound a chord.
