Yahoo search Cyber acoustics, or if you know the manufacturer of your sound card, check them out.

www.hpsupport.com, they cover compaq as well

Is your Presario a laptop or desktop, you also need to know the model number.

If you don't know all the information, like what operating system you're running, there is a small download that will access the BIOS to tell you. It's safe, I've done it before, no viruses or anything(at least from HP's site)
It's very important to know the model#
My compaq has all the info on a huge sticker on the side of the case, but mine is a 2001 model. If you have the owners manual for it, that is WAY useful

Good luck and happy hunting!!

Also, check to make sure you plugged the speakers into the right port. They are color coded, you need to plug into the green one.
If your speakers are powered by a 110 outlet, plug them in.
I did the plug them into the wrong port before and got online with a technician and felt like a complete idiot!

It's not the speakers you need to worry about.. It's what sound card you have installed in your computer.. Check which motherboard you have installed and see if it has onboard sound. You'r best bet is to contact the place you bought the computer and ask them what sound card is installed.. Once you find out that information you can go and download the drivers you need.. Good luck
