Well, once i had a crush on a guy because of his writings. I only knew couple detales about his personal life, but that was all. I got to know him in person, and we became good friends, but that is all, although i still think he's a very special person and a great writer. The problem is that sometimes you can see more in a piece of writing than there really is.

and experience them in person too, and not just know them by
what they write. Writing can be just as attractive to someone as being tall, dark, and handsome is to someone else.

I don't think so. A pen pal is not a lover. It obviously requires physical presence. You can appreciate someone for his/her writing skills, and love the writing, of course.
