*This is not a smart *** answer*: The renal tubules are lined by cells called renal tubule epithelial cells.
These slough off periodically, and so are occasioally seen in normal urine during urinalysis. If these cells are present in large numbers, especially if they are in sheets, the kidney damage is indicated.
