Hamsters bite. They are not really the friendliest pets out there, because they like to be alone more than they like to have friends.
Try waking up the hamster before you try to touch it. Sleeping hamsters are cranky hamsters. Gently tap the cage until it wakes up and walks around a little. Then give it a yummy treat. Then wash your hands, if he smells food, he might bite thinking you have more food for him.
Put a toilet paper roll in the cage for him, when he goes in, gently pick it up and hold it near your hand. That way, the only thing to walk on is you, and he will get used to being handled.
Be patient. Treats are only for when you are holding him. As a reward for good behavior.

Keep on taking the hamster out until it gets used to you and your scent. A hamster will eventually get used to getting taken out repetitively that it will gradually give in with the biting and become sociable with humans. Therefore becoming tame in the long run. Don't let your brother poke the hamster again or the hamster will distrust you and it will be harder to get it to be tamed or even out of the box at all haha. If you really want it to not be nippy, you can try giving it a piece of fruit to nibble at once it's on your hand so it focuses more on the food rather than your fingers hehe

try to wake your hamster up before you tyr to pick him up, like the answer above says sleepy hamsters are cranky hamsters..also DO NOT LET YOUR BROTHER POKE IT!!! you have to get your hamster used to being handled, use the tips given in the 1st answer on here very good advice, just remember BE PATIENT & try to keep your mean brother away from your hamster because the more he pokes & teases it the longer its going to take to tame the lil guy...GOOD LUCK!! hamsters can be great little pets you just gotta take the time to tame em

you should put gloves on before you pick your hamster up and if she bites it wont hurt. When you notice that your hamster has stoped bitting your gloves you should try it without the gloves.

buy a book on how to keep hampsters - in it it will tell you that they need to get to know you and it will take time for it to trust you. . #Don't poke the thing - if you don't like animals don't buy them.
