My favorite possition. I love the greats like Johnny Bench and Josh Gibson and Yogi seemed to always get it done in the post season (most hits by anyone in the world series). I am also guessing that he could handle a pitching staff by just saying something they didn't understand...then they would be thinking about that instead of thinking of pitching so much.
I like some current catchers like Jason Varitek and Ivan Rodriguez. I also have it on good authority (a pitcher that has pitched to him many times in the majors) that Mike Matheney is a great catcher. I think the Mauer kid has a chance to be one of the top 5 catchers all time too.
But my favorite is (the original Pudge) Fisk. It is hard to get away from your favorite player who played your favorite position on your favorite team when you were a kid (luckily for me, he was a good catcher too).

Joe Mauer of the Twins, he may become the 1st catcher in 60 years to win a batting title. He has a gun for an arm and calls a good game & he's only 23 years old.

Gotta have Pusge in the conversation. But Jorge Posada has been rock solid swhitch hitting with power and handling all the different Yankee hurlers over the past 3-4 seasons.

Definitely Mike Matheny!!
I hope that he will be able to return from his concussion and not be forced to retire. He has always been great behind the plate...from his ability to call a good game to his amazing Gold Glove Award winning defense. Get better soon Mike!

Mine is definately AJ Pierzysnki. He gets a lot of flak for his antics but is a hard nose catcher who only wants to win.. Hes great at calling for pitches and throwing out baserunners. He is also great at getting into opponents heads and getting them off their game. He also hits for average offensively and is comprable to other catchers in HRs and RBIs. He is a great teammate and Sox fans love him.

Ivan Rodruguez!
He has a arm on him that wont quit!
I love how he makes those snaps throws to first base keeping the runner close.
He's actually thrown out a few runners like that.
Also, he's thrown out a few runners trying to steal 3rd. and I love how he blocks the plate and tags runners out trying to score.
He is one of the many reasons why The Tigers are doing so good.

My favorite has to be Jorge Posada...He's great! Can hit too! Works hard without complaint. I also had a lot of respect for Jonnie Bench and Yogi Berra. Thurman Munson was hubby's fav.
