Because there's no freakin vegetation here!!!
If the Iraqi people would irrigate this place it wouldn't be as hot. and there wouldn't be so much dust. Dust everywhere! (In the rainy season it's nothing but mud)
At least it is a dry heat (Haa haa haa haa haa)
At the Equator??? Iraq is north of the Tropic of Cancer and the southern border is about the same distance north as Jacksonville, Florida. About 2000 miles north of the Equator.)

Iraq is very hot in summer because it s a desert country, that is relatively cloud-free and bone dry during the long summer period over there, which means uninterrupted solar radiation and thermal radiation. However, this isn t all. The secret behind the high summer heat in Middle Eastern countries such as Kuwait, Iraq and Iran is overall the very low elevation. Areas around the Persian Gulf are as hot because they lie at the sea level, which increases the atmospheric pressire as the column of air is higher and denser. The same phenomenon occurs at a higher intensity in Death Valley, California, one of the hottest places on the planet during summer, which even sits below sea level. The lower the place is, the hotter it is and the hotter it can get. Also, the summer weather pattern in Iraq is still, so much of the accumulated heat is trapped in the low-lying desert plains.
Also, the coastal areas of the Persian Gulf are surrounded by high mountains ranges or high-lying plateaus to the north by the Taurus and the Elburz Mountains, to the east by the Zagros Mountains, to the west by the high Arabian Plateau and to the south, again, by highly elevated terrain and some other minor mountains ranges. All these natural obstacles force the air masses brought by winds, no matter what their direction are, to sink and to compress even more, which further increase temperatures in this region.
However, many parts of the Sahara Desert are at least as hot as these coastal desert areas without all these geographical features, just because this is an area of maximum solar radiation and thus maximum land heating. That s also why I don t consider Middle Eastern deserts as the hottest places on the planet during summer. It s a bit like cheating.

Hadley cells. The largest circulation in the atmosphere consists of warm moist air rising from the equatorial region, dropping rain, and then moving to the north or south, where it tends to settle toward the surface. At the surface, the winds tend to blow back toward the equator and the cycle repeats. As the air settles toward the surface, it heats by compression and the relative humidity falls. The circulation I have just described is called a Hadley cell. If you look at a map, you will see that most of the great deserts of the world are near the Tropic of Cancer or the Tropic of Capricorn, which is where the air tends to descend. There is a seasonal shift in the locations of the cells, which permits some of the desert regions to get rain in the winter.

The temperatue of Iraq is very similar to the extreme southern portions of the United States (near Mexico), so it is not particularly hotter there than anywhere else of the same latitude (how far you are away from the equator determines how hot your location will be, because it determines how much sunlight directly hits you, year round). However, Iraqi climate is also hot because of their large expanses of desert (which radiates heat from the sun), slow moving weather systems (the heat doesn't go anywhere) and the prevalence of heavy winds (which dry out everything, allowing heat to build up)

It is because everybody in Iraq worships the wrong god and God is punishing you by making you suffer the heat of eternal damnation. That is also why you are poor and why your country is always oppressed by war or dictators.
