Thank You Letter To Boss

First of all, I want to commend you for wanting to thank your boss. I've known plenty of people over the years who wouldn't say anything, so this is highly professional of you, and just the nice thing to do.

Instead of writing a letter, I would suggest walking up to your boss and personally thanking him or her. This way, it's a bit more personalized.

But if you want to do it by letter, then a standard thank you would suffice. Something like "I want to personally thank you for the lovely gift, and say how nice it is that you appreciate all my hard work and dedication."

FYI, I would send a copy of it to HR / Personnel so they can put it in your file. It looks good! Just don't cc them on the actual letter.

And the letter should not be on company stationary, but rather on your own or a thank you card.

- Write the note on a typewriter or word processor using your letterhead. Avoid sending store-bought thank-you notes.

- Address the note to the particular person using his or her formal name and title on the address line.

- Use a formal greeting, the greeting should reflect the person's formal name ("Dear Mr. Smith").

- Explain who you are and what the note is about in the first few lines. Make reference to the gift that has generated your thank-you note.

- Use professional language throughout the note and a personal, breezy touch.

- Keep the note as brief as possible though, while still maintaining a tone of friendliness, especially if you are personally acquainted with your boss.

- Close with your formal name and title on the signature line. If you know your boss well, sign the note by hand using your first name. Otherwise, sign your full name.

- Address the envelope using the recipient's formal name and title.

- It can also be appropriate to send flowers or some other thank-you gift if your boss has really gone out of his or her way for you.

You are probably at the bottom of the pay scale and giving a gift now after all the others gave you one is lame. Card is good enough thanking for their gift and you won't burn down their house "this week" Give them a laugh as you slash their tires and key their cars. By giving a card signed as "my name" will keep them guessing and keep you in the clear.
