only a wooden stake through a heart will kill a vampire.

a silver stake wont kill them at all. it will burn and hurt them like alot but it wont kill them.

vampires are by legend allergic to silver and garlic. both things cause them pain but dont kill them.

oh sunlight also kills them.
im not to sure if beheading would kill them. but your GF is write bout silver not working since it only hurts them alot doesnt kill them.

interesting thing about vampires

they cant cross running water
and if you through a bunch of tiny items like seperated beads on the ground they will pick them up and count them (they have to be tiny and the same kind of item which is why rice or beads work best)
giving you a chance to run away.

dracula is a work of fiction he doesnt have any real relevence to vampire mythology do killing him doesnt kill all the vampires.

oh yeah and if you ever hear someone call your name in the middle of the night a test to see if they are a vampire is to not answer. vampires in mythology cant say someones name twice in a row so if they dont call you again it was a vampire.

oh and for the poster that posted after me

vampires are already dead they dont need to breath

I haven't heard about eating the heart. I don't think that one is true, especially since I've done tons of research on the subject. I think silver is subjective, but anything sharp and pointy will do the trick. To be really sure that the vampire is dead, stab it in the heart with a stake, then behead it. That's the method Bram Stoker used in his novel. Like someone said before, sunlight is great, too. Some cultures have buried their dead at crossroads, thinking if they rise again as a vampire they cannot cross it. Also near a river is another variation.

Depends on what kind of vampire you're talking about.

Vampires, like other slavic mythological creatures, were not only afraid of garlic, but enjoyed counting grains of sawdust, sand, wheat grain, and other things like that. Other methods of killing included exorcism, beheadings (certain cultures enjoyed placing the head between the feet), burning, repeated burial rights, sprinkling holy water on the grave, or, of course, staking.

The Romainians also had vampires. Not all of these were dead, and included live witches who will become true vampires after death. To kill Romanian vampires, one must have cut off the head, stuffed it with garlic, and in particularily bad cases, a dismembering and thorough burning of the body and scattering of the ashes to the four winds. In the nineteenth century, firing a bullet through the coffin was added to these followings.

This is but a small list of methods used.

I agree with girlfriend wooden stakes or beheading would kill a vampire and don't forget sunlight. Silver is mostly used on werewolves. Well this is mostly what I have seen in movies.

Good ol' fashioned sunlight does the trick.
I think the wooden stake only paralyzes the creature momentarily... I remember reading quite a few times that you need to behead the body before a vampire is completely dead.

Sunlight would work, also. And anything silver is for werewolves. Silver doesn't necessarily kill vampires. It's just that they don't like silver much because silver-backed mirrors don't show their reflection, making detection of a vampire easier.

Of course, real vampires don't exist, but this is the myth associated with them.

wooden stake thru the heart just paralyses... u chop the head off to truly kill said vampire by legend.

Some folklore say to dig body up during the day and for a relative to devour its heart :S (still done today) LoL, supposedly the heart jumps around on the frying pan if it was truly a vampire(undead) heart..

Seeing that vampires don't exist I can not help you. If you do encounter something that appears to be human and tries to suck the life out of you run like the dickens to the nearest holy ground aka a church! And never invite anything unholy into your home. they can't enter if you don't invite them. If you are being taunted by something go see a priest.
