The best way is to have an electrostatic wrist strap grounded to a electrostatic pad. This is not easy to do, but done in the airline industry and electronic industry when handling electrostatic sensitive parts.
At home, work on your computer on a regular floor, or surface, not standing on carpet. Touch something metal before working on it, (the case chassis will work). As long as you do not move around creating friction you will be OK. If you have a good table or office chair mat to work on, this helps, but mainly, not on carpet which creates friction. Good luck, and don't worry, you would have to really try to short out the computer. And of course, keep it unplugged when working on the inside.

First, touch the metal part of the case, then I like to keep contact with the metal case as much as possible until I'm done working. Rest my forearm on the case, or grab the case with my opposing hand. Wrist straps are O.K. if your use to working with one on. Just keep it clipped to the metal part of the case while your working. Those you can get at any computer retail store.
