New pc, self built, running xp sp2, new everything, when i start up the pc and windows goes to log in my monitor reads "disconnected", i am running it at 1280x1024 witch video card and monitor both supports and it starts up under safe mode and enable VGA but no other way, the pc does not heat upand all connections look good, i have yet to find anything in bios or installed software that could have gone wrong PLEASE help this is very annoying

Make sure all of your cards and ram are seated properly, I ran into that problem once and it as a SIMM that was not seated.

You might want to try re-installing the operating system. It sounds like the dll file for the monitor has been corrupt. Most of the time, when starting in safe-mode, these dll files are not required to run (if you haven't noticed great color disconfigurations in safe-mode). If that does not solve the problem, try plugging your monitor into another computer and vyse-versa. If neither of those work, I am sorry I could not help you but perhaps the experts at http://www.hardforums.com/ or better yet http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ (24-hour responces) can help you out.

Have you tried reinstalling the video drivers in safe mode? Also making sure the refresh rate is one the monitor can handle.

Try reducing your screen resolution and refresh rate.

Make sure you have installed the chipset drivers before installing the display driver.
