No not even close. Emmit has said it himself that if Barry hadn't retired he'd be the record holder. Barry and Walter for the ost part had terrible lines that they ran behind and put up great numbers. Emmit had probowl lines and put up comparible numbers. Barry or Walter behind Dallas lines the numbers would blow Emmit out of the water. Emittit was good no doubt, but overratted. I'd put Barry #1 and Walter #2.

Ok, lets set the record straight. I am a Cowboys fan, so my answer may or may not be surprising....

Who is better, Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith? It is Smith. Why? Barry Sanders has a lot of yards, but in the REGULAR SEASON. Barry did nothing in the playoffs (Remember going to Green Bay and his total was -20 yards rushing?). An injured Emmitt Smith against the New York Giants went for over 140 yards rushing.

Who is better, Walter Payton or Emmitt Smith? That is easy - Walter Payton. Payton is the 2nd greatest running back in history behind Jim Brown - bar none.

Nope. His huge asset was longevity and durability. Sanders and Payton had excitability. Barry breaks the record with a worse team over the same span that had Emmit behind him at 3 with a better team. Payton was a hell of a back and he didn't always run with the caliber of line Smith did either.

If I had to pick and Emmit was all that was left though, I would still pick him. He was a great back. But he's hard to even put in my top ten favorite backs of all time.

smith is up there with the greats in the game for sure, all time leader in rushing and 3 rings. a lot of people knock him cause he never had the persona to go with his talent, he would rush for the hard yards, 2 here, 3 there, never many game breakers like sanders or jim brown. if sanders dident retire he would have broken all the records, he had 4-5 more good years left in him and even when he left the game he is i think 3rd or 4th on the all time rushing list. plus how many rings do sanders and payton have, 1 and that was when payton was at the tail end of his playing days and did not do much in the super bowl, without smith the cowboys get 1 ring if they were lucky....

First of all, If Barry would've stayed around half as long as the 50 years Smith was around, he would've had 3 million yards more. Barry Sanders was a classy and considerate player. Didn't give a $hit about records. Wasn't ever injured and he never really had a line to help him run, he pretty much did it on his own. Smith had a superbowl team to help him. Barry was 10 times better than Smith could ever think of being but Smith was great. He was a great citizen off the field as well.....he just wasn't nearly as good as Sanders.....

barry sanders, is the final working lower back of all time. emmit smith had an all professional offensive line, freaking peewee herman ought to hurry for one thousand yards a season at the back of the line smith had in dallas. thats why smith is out somewhat. its between walter payton and barry sanders, and that's no decrease value of walter payton's skills. only placed it this form walter payton performed for a superbowl winner, what did barry have? oh thats precise sanders replaced into on a continuously dropping team(different than the 1991 squad who made the NFC championship). barry sanders replaced into on a continuously dropping team and nonetheless got here upon counsel on the thank you to have one thousand backyard dashing seasons. additionally emmit smith could carry the profession dashing checklist, yet he's talked in interviews the place he even admits barry sanders could have broken that checklist long in the previous he ever did had sanders no longer retired early. its a fact human beings bypass away barry sanders out of the communicate for ultimate working lower back all time as a results of fact the lions by no skill gained a component on a similar time as he performed.

Barry Sanders is hands down the best running back ever period. He would have shattered all the records if he wanted to, it's just too bad he didn't care about them. I got to watch a lot of his games in person, wow that was exciting!!!

Sure. He was an all time great and certainly deserves to be in the same class of backs. Personally I believe Jim Brown was the greatest.
