let chkdsk run through it's routine completely... if it pops up again, then some utility on the computer is scheduling it to run at boot... with all the self-proclaimed techs here, i am amazed no one mentioned this before

If this is the error you are getting, then the hard drive has been contaminated with a microscopic piece of dirt or dust. These drives are assembled in ultra-clean enviorments. Any dirt on these drives will cause a crash. If the drive is still functioning, back up your data NOW! The chances of the drive crashing are great! Back up the entire drive if you want to save your settings etc.. Then get ready to buy a new hard drive for your computer. If the drive is making any unusual noise, it will crash soon! Scrap Norton, it is a system resource hog. Get AVG Anti virus, it's free. Also get : Ad-Aware, Spy-bot Search and Destroy, Windows Defender(Beta 2 Ver.), all are free. Back up your data on a regular basis.

chkdsk won't detect viruses. That message means that a cluster on your drive is corrupt, or a head on the actual physical drive is damaged. The Check-disk utility should give you options of what to do: otherwise, try to live with it; it shouldn't affect everyday PC usage. Or you can replace the Hard Drive (that''s probably your best bet)
