When she says anything to you that is condescending in any way, pretend you didn't hear her, and then when she repeats herself, say "until you can speak to me with mutual respect, I will continue to not respond to you.
And then stick to it!
And if it happens again tell her you will report her to upper management for causing a hostile work environment. You have laws to protect you from people like her.

Well, since you are the bigger person, I suggest giving her the benefit of the doubt. Obviously she's a good worker, or else she wouldn't be working there. She may have tragedies that she doesn't know how to process or, maybe she's been hurt physically, mentally or spiritually and has no one to talk to. I start by asking, "May I ask you a personal question?" She'll probably say, "Yes." Then say, "What is your spiritual background?" Not religion - spiritual! Maybe this could be a common denominator you two have in common. So, I think that an offer of truce would be the best route to take. Buy her a card, or have some flowers sent to her on the job explaining your position on the matter and that friction won't allow for potential growth as co-workers. Remind yourself that this action you're taking is because you're a good person and that everyone deserves a chance every now and then. -progress.

Every try to understand why she is doing that?
To get attention?
By the way you describe, she probably hates going to the office. But since she's in the office getting a salary, maybe she needs help somewhere but nowhere or no one to turn to.
Giving here a listening ear helps sometimes.

Just remember that you are much more intelligent than she.Do not bring yourself to her level,it will only lessen your strength towards her foul words. It is in the work place,so it in your best interest to ignore this insulting woman.Take it easy and concentrate on what matters most:your well being and your new job.Sincerely,Tom Science

Find out her home address. Get a bunch of random key chains with a bunch of useless keys on them.. Then get those little ID tags and put her home address on them with a $100 offer if these lost keys are found, then just her address and no phone number. Then once a day for the next month, drop one set of these keys off if semi-bad place (neighborhood, bus station etc.)
then just sit back at watch her face every day at work...the day you leave the place....give her a single key and tell her "Thanks for unlocking my vengeance".....

Well, the best thing to do is ignore her, since everyone hates her.
But, if you feel safe enough, and just HAVE to do/say something.
the next time she says something awful,
Say , as if it is a complement. "that was very onageristic"
DON'T EVER SPELL THE WORD OUT FOR HER. (onager)
it sounds like it is a word related to honor or honorable, but, in fact, means a wild jacka$$

Number of things. You could either discuss the matter with your HR report or you could just challenge her. If she says "Hey, why did you do it that way? That is so wrong." I would retort back "Oh, I wasn't aware of that. Why don't YOU show me the proper way to do things."
Just remember, people like that like to divert the focus off of them because they are insecure in themselves. Be secure in yourself and believe in yourself and you'll find the perfect opportunity to dish it back to her. Good luck to you!

take it easy and wait. People like that are short of intelligence, your turn will come to put her in the corner. Later she won't bother you any more.
