I have my own version of 12 days of Christmas. Starting on 12/13, when I go in to get my coffee in the morning, I pay for extra coffees for random other customers. I tell the cashier not to say who it's from, just tell them Merry Christmas. I continue it on until Christmas, changing what I pay for day by day...ei 2 coffees and a hot chocolate, 1 coffee, 1 hot chocolate, and 2 soda refills...stuff like that.

I go to Christmas Eve Communion with my family. I curl up with a cup of spiced tea and read Luke Chapter 2. I l watch "Christmas in Connecticut", The Grinch, Charlie Brown, "A Christmas Story", and sometimes Rudolph. I make Christmas goodies and give them as gifts. I try to remember what Christmas is about and Who it's about. And attempt (not always successfully) to embody Christmas virtues of charity and goodness all year.

My husband's family has had the greatest tradition for Christmas Eve ever since he was a child; we continue it today. After going to church we all come home and bake appetizers like stuffed mushrooms, spinach dip, sausage biscuits and a few other tasty dishes. Then we all sit down on the floor in the family room in front of the fire place and set out all of the food picnic style. It's so awesome because we are all there together and laughing and enjoying great food.
When we get done we each get to pick one present for someone else to open and we open each one at a time. there is always a joke present that rotates between my husband and his sisters each year.
Lastly, before going to bed we play a board game together and try to get to open another present. Every one is always happy and laughing and it is a great family time to be together!

My mom and myself still decorate her tree every single year, I'm 25 now and been doing it each year that I can remember. We try to get it done just as it gets dark out so we can turn the lights off in the house and turn the tree on. When I was young that was one of the greatest feelings that I had was that tree being lit up for the 1st time. That meant that Christmas was coming very soon.

I wake up. Exchange presents with my family. Go to church. Then go to my grandma's house and have a party with all my relatives. And we make gumdrop cookies, m&m cookies, and sugar cookies. Oh and yeah instead of going broke and giving everyone a present we do a secret Santa thing where everyone buys a gift for one other person.. it works out. And the children get presents that say from Santa.
Also every other year we help my Grandma with this really cool thing she has where it is a mini village collection, they are tiny collectables with houses, streets, cars, (Snow!), people, and lots of cool things like a mini ski lift and ice skating rink, and an airport, krispe kreme, train, lots of odds and ends, so it looks amazing. We set it up on tables and then put black paper on her wall and white christmas lights on it to look like a starry sky! It's really cool. And she has such a big collection now it takes up a whole room. It's been on the news before :] pretty cool just kind of a lot of work, but it's worth it! It looks all snowy and Christmasy and we play Christmas music and have an open house just so people can come see it.

As a read through he answers, I find some things in common with the responders: family gatherings, special treats, watching tv specials, etc.
I have a big family: 4 brothers, 1 sister, 13 nieces and nephews. When we were younger and the nieces and nephews were still in grade school, they would come over to our house for a Christmas Eve dinner. Then, we would open presents.
My mom made "wreath cookies" using sugar cookies and the cake decorating stuff that comes from a tube to make "wreaths" on the cookies. She would add Cinnamon pieces to look like berries. My brothers now in their 40s LOVE these cookies. My mom is gone now and I took over the tradition. It isn't Christmas without mom's wreath cookies.

every year, my husband and son go out a pick out a tree while my daughter and i get all the decorations out and decorate the house and then when the boys come home w/ the tree, we turn on the chistmas music and decorate the tree. my son was born still born 5 days before christmas 5 years ago, so we always get a tree for him and take it to the cemetary, my daughter was only 2 when this happened and that is the most important tradition for her to do.....really brings the meaning of christmas home.

We gather together out in our barn with blankets and sleeping bags Hot chocolate and donuts, and listen to our grandparents tell stories of when they had Christmas when they were little. And we end the night with grandma reading Christmas stories for the little ones. And a few Christmas carols. I can remember when my great grandma and grandpa told the stories. My grandma past away this year, so the tradition goes to my mother this year. Along with the old Christmas books.

With 7 brothers and sisters 40 nieces and nephews we celebrate Christmas at our parents on Christmas eve. We each bring a dish to pass and 1 gift for our own child to open, We eat decorate mom and dads tree sing songs and open gifts. I surprised my family 10 years ago by having every niece and nephew over teaching them songs and skits to put on for my family and having a group photo of them for my parents. My parents and family loved it. So every year now even though there getting older my nieces and nephews look forwards to coming all to my house making cookies for Christmas eve and learning what kind of skit we are going to do this year. Christmas isn't about the gifts we buy its about the gifts of love we give.

Christmas is always at my mom's and we have a big family so instead of bringing a gift for everyone we only bring one each and play white elephant. We all end up with a gift and we have lots of fun laughing at the things that happen and are said in the process.
