first off biting your nails IS harmful too your nail & if you continue to bite them you may destoy them so much that they wont grow back!!
Have you tried getting manicures?? If your nails are all pretty you'll think twice about biting them & ruining your manicure...plus paint isn't so good. You could even get a gel overlay(they'll apply a special gel over your nails, it's so pretty & doesn't even look fake). With the gels you could also get tips put on if you'd like longer nails. I like the gels over acrylic, they aren't as harmful to the nail & they look natural.
They also sell this stuff that you apply to your nails & it tastes bad, I guess that would help too, I think you can pick it up at any drug store.
Good luck!!

try dipping your fingertips in ceyenne pepper when you get the urge to bite. Or paint nails clear and just bite the polish off. I picked up smoking to stop nailbiting (stupid I know) Then i got pregnant, quit smoking and bite my nails. I am 24 and don't really care though. You may also wish to keep a journal. when you catch yourself biting write the time and date and what was happening to you. not how you were feeling at the time too. Review your journal often. Getting a hobby that involves working with your hands a lot is good too.

Male or female? Apparently if you get those fake nails put on it helps because you can't bite them. dippng your hands in vinegar is supposed to help. if you are male yoou could put some clear hard as nails on and people might not notice. it is harder to bite with stuff like that on.
nail biting is an oral fixation. you need something to do with your hands to distract yourself. try carrying somehting in your pocket to distract youself like one of hose fancy coinc etc. i wear bracelets when i am at work. if i have to sit througha boring meeting etc or a nervous i can take the bacelet off and play with it rather than fidget or nail bite. it works and people dont notice much. unless they are fidgeters too then they know my game plan.

You must remember that nail biting is just a habit. The only way to change a habit is to replace it with something else. I do believe it takes just about a year to really change a habit even then you might have a relapse. You might want to seek professional help to help you with this change. They could give you suggestions on what to replace it with

Just think about all the bacteria living under your nails every time you wanna bite them. There are worms that live under your nails.. you stick your hands in your mouth and there go some worms down your throat!!

There are no-bite nail polishes at the drug store. You can find them, you paint your fingernails with it and it tastes terrible. Just make sure you put it on a few times a day, and it works.

I bit mine because I couldn't stand to see any uneven edges. If thats why you do it, carrying a tiny keychain style nail file could help. That way you can fix the edges without biting.

I had this habit for awhile. Try getting a manicure! I keep my nails manicured now because when I see them clean and looking good, I will less likely bite them!

Get artificial nails, which ruin your natural nail, or get a nail hardener. Good luck. I have been fighting this for as long as I can remember.
