I know empathy is "putting yourself in other people's shoes", but what about pain? When people describe something from something mildly uncomfortable to extremely painful, I can FEEL it. If I see it, I also feel it. It's led me to pass out sometimes. Is this empathy? B/c if it isn't, I want to know what is IS so I can get rid of it and watch horror movies again. Also my friends are tired of having to "water-down" their stories. It's not that I don't enjoy violence, I LOVE it, it's just I almost pass out when I see it. So yeah. There's my question.

Ok, I just gotta tell you, I cannot see a dead cat in the road, read the obituaries, eat sardines in front of my goldfish, watch the movie"Troy" ever go fishing again, but get this. I can not kill a cocaroach, or anything for that matter. I can't sit through stories that include another living beings pains or hardship but here is the finale. There was this storm last year where the wind had blown, and it hailed and rained. After it had blown over, I had rode my bike to the store. On the way back, I was almost physically knocked off my bike, and just as sudden, I felt this intense pain, like my chest was being crushed. I didn't know what to think, but I kept going. As I rounded the top of this little hill I saw a tree that had one of it's branches broke from the storm, and I knew that what I was going through and what the tree was going through were somehow linked. I was emotionally paralyzed from everything that took place at that moment in time. I recovered and told the tree that the only thing that I could do was pull the branch all of the way off but that I was not capable of doing that because of what I was feeling. I was afraid that I would feel like I should do that for the tree so I ran off. I knew that it would have been so emotionally draining that I might break down and find myself in the nut house or something.
The extra something that empaths have is the awareness of what others are going through, but, how much realization comes with that, ready or not.

I HAVE BEEN AN EMPATH MY ENTIRE LIFE.YES, I FEEL OTHERS PAIN AND IT IS HARD SOMETIMES. I TRY NOT TO WATCH SCARY MOVIES, AND I HATE IT WHEN THERE ARE VIOLENT STORIES IN THE NEWS AS I CAN FEEL THE PAIN,BOTH EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL. ITS NOT ALWATS POSSIBLE TO DO THIS, WHEN I SEE A CAR WRECK, OR SOMEONE GETS AN INJURY, EVEN A SMALL ONE I CAN FEEL OT. GOOD LUCK WITH THIS GIFT/CURSE
