yes they can contend, but he's too slow to play small forward... he'll play power forward or center depending on how they match-up with the opposing team...

KG and K-Mart can work as a front court, but you can't limit their playing area. For example, MN would have to run a zone defense with constant pressure on the outside to force teams down low and into what would be a 2 PF set. The offense and defense would have to run through both, because neither fits into a starting C or SF position. MN would have to look to play a brand of basketball similar to that used in high school. IF K-Mart became a Timberwolf the starting line-up would HAVE to look like this;
POSTs - KG & K-Mart Gs - Mike James, Ricky Davis, & Trenton Hassel.
I say "HAVE to..." because that is where the salary would lie; in those 5 players.
The only way I see K-Mart coming to MN is in a three team deal involving MN, Denver, and Boston. Denver would have to give-up Martin to MN and Marcus Camby to BOS. Minnesota sends Eddie Griffin and Marko Jaric to DEN and Troy Hudson and a combination of cash and bench players to BOS. Boston then moves Wally Szczerbiak to DEN and Delonte West to MN. This trade probably wouldn't happen until sometime inside the regular season as Boston is actively trying to find a way of bringing Allen Iverson their way and T-Hud would be a reasonable replacement if they can't get A. I.

They will not be with Kenyon. As talented as Kenyon is, when he wasn't in the Denver lineup, they were actually BETTER. They had a winning record when he was out of the lineup, and a losing record while he was in the lineup. Also, his antics at playoff time were truly selfish. You add that to Ricky Davis (he is the one who threw the ball on the other team's backboard so he could have his triple-double & could not get along with LeBron), and you have a volatile situation.

K-Mart spends most of his time injured, so he'd make for a lovely overpaid spectator on the bench.

They don't have KMart. Plus he's not a natural SF. He would not do well as a perimeter player.
