that kids under 17 can't see a rated "R" movie unless accompanied by an adult, but they can star in one?

no, i'm not under 17...actually, i'm 24

and it is a contradiction b/c even though they get their parents' permission, the role is purposely put out there for younger kids...and i would think that acting in a movie like that would be more psychologically harmful than just watching it...

You are probably under 17, but I HATE it when my girlfriend and I go to a nice horror flick and all we can hear is a bunch of retarded little kids talking their heads off during the entire movie. I like the 17 because it forces the audience to a certain maturity, even if it only be 17.

why is that a contradiction? The actor's parents consented to having the child actor work in the movie the same way that parents are supposed to consent for a child to watch a rated R movie. There is no contradiction there.

You know, I never thought about that before. That is kinda demented. On the other hand, R movies would be kind of weird without anybody under 17 in them, ever.

It's because the legal age of adulthood in the US is 18. Therefore you are not legally allowed to see whatever you want until you are 18. It's up to your parents. May seem stupid, but there has to be a cap put on it somewhere.

I think that rule is less about the teens, but moreso about protecting the company from being taken to court by a bunch of unrealistic, overprotective parents for showing 17yr old"johnny"(who probably has quite the sex life &more than likely tried his share of drugs) a pair of ****, a c@#t,or a pile of cocaine.
