ok I work for a customer care center and all the calls I had received so far from illegal imigrants to US, most of them have been polite to me and humble, but when the real american guys speak to customer care they are like oh I´m the king of the world ver unciviliced, extremely rude, they ask to be put on to the supervisor at 3 seconds of the call, c´mon what´s going on? from this point of view (and I dont want to generalize) the mayor part of americans seem to be more unciviliced than illegal immigrants(cubans, mexicans, etc)
oh and by the way I´m causcatian, good economy and education stats , so you will not think this quiestion is because i feel discriminated or feel something bad to US. also I dont pretend to insult american people, this is for reflexion. please answer in an adult way.

Sorry for the term, and for the spelling. I was just a little confused why they were so rude.
Also I have loved all my vacations to US, thank you for your answers, and pardon me again.

i just think a lot of customer service people who work solely on the phones have not been properly trained. there are a few companies that when i have to call customer service i always ask for a supervisor because they are the only ones who are actually authorized to do something. but if i've never called a customer service center before i'm usually pretty polite. you have to remember, when people call customer service it's almost always because something they have paid for is not working correctly and that can make anyone frustrated. i usually apologize in advance to the rep on the phone telling them i know it is not their fault but i am frustrated nonetheless. besides, how do you know who is illegal and who is not? and maybe americans can't understand you (if you have an accent) you can't judge people based on when they are making calls to customer service.

The reason that we Americans get upset so fast when we call a customer call center is because we tend to want to get things done quickly. We want to make the call, not have to sit on hold for long, get done with what we called to do, and then get off the phone. Plus I think another factor is because of job outsourcing for the career that you are in. A lot of those jobs that were in the U.S. have been moved over to other countries and some might feel a grudge to that.

And please don't generalize people. We Americans are just like any other people. People from other countries can be just as rude and uncivilized as anyone else. Please don't make a deduction about a group of people just from some phone calls that were made to a customer call center when the people were probably calling because they were upset about their service anyways. And oh yeah, if you work for AOL, than they are probably being defensive right away because of all the problems people have been having with trying to cancel their service and it not getting canceled when they want it to be.

Good question. I was in the customer service line before at the airport and deal with all nationalities before. So I know what you're talking about. However I also agree with the answer from GINA B. She's got a point there too. I guess that's how life is but let's just put all the rude people (american or not) on invisible mode, and focus on the nice gracious people there are left in this world!

Perphaps it all started at home on how they are brought up. The average American may be 'rich in assets'; but poor in happiness. Have you read the recent survey that USA ranked 150th out of 178 nations surveyed?
http://www.neweconomics.org/gen/uk108thinhappyplanetindex120706.aspx

Sometimes whey they speak, the wrong words come out of their mouths. Their thoughts are not equal to the reality. USA has the biggest debt in the whole world? I will not be proud of it. Then why are they not humble (or more 'civilize)?

Oh, the day will come when no one can claim the land they are borned in! An African is called an African because he is borned in Afica. That goes for an American. He did not choose. He exist because he is a gift from Heaven. It's God's grace.

When one comes to realise that we are all equal, then we will have peace and stability throughout the earth.

It is not what you have and therefore (some typical people) behave arrogant; but what we are (the inner most of us) that will carry the respect.

In Christ, there is hope. Claim it!

First of all I don't know where you are from? You didn't state that. As a proud union member and red blooded american you have to look at our point of view. Look at the corporate greed in this country. We have watched our jobs, way of life, get shipped across the seas of the world to places where workers rights are not recognized. Low wages, poor working conditions, no benefits. Now, can you understand why we are a little frustrated with illegal immigrants, jobs going over seas to people who can barely speak english when we call them for a customer complaint, service problem? Maybe someday the rest of the world will wake up and realize how much they are being taken advantage of!!!!!!

First off you are generalizing. Not everyone is uncivilized in the US, just like I'm in Germany and not many here are civilized (especially since I'm black and married to mister blond and blue---u would think the racism thing would get old).
The problem might be that they are calling you because something is wrong. And according to the contract they are entitled to something. When they call, they know their rights, and they know that as a customer service person you are going to put them first. They are spoiled, not uncivilized.
My 3-yr old is spoiled but she is not uncivilized.

I dont think that we are "uncivilized" i do believe however that alot of Americans are in a rush and can be very rude. when i was in high school i worked at a fast food restaurant and alot of people are just rude to the people who serve them. when you do costumer care and work with the public at anytime you will get rude people all the time it is just something that is encrypted in your job. Im sure that not all people are this way and you do have alot of patient polite Americans that you deal with and with that said i believe that it is unfair of you to say that we are uncivilized you could have worded it differently like why are they so impolite or rude because with that headline for your question you are going to get alot of angry people responding to this question

I'm a US resident...a legal one. I guess we can be rude at times....but maybe we're just sick of all the bull **** we have to put up with...like our tax dollars going to cover the costs of those illegal imagrants. I'm sorry....was I being rude and unadult-like? Maybe the illegal imagrants are so polite and humble because they're under no stress since they come into our country and get special treatment that even a natural citizen can't get. I'm sorry....there I go again...being rude. Maybe I'm tired of being s hit on. I have one question for you. When an illegal imagrant calls into your phone line....do they get a recorder that says "press 1 for English....press 2 for spanish". It should say "press 1 for English...press 2 and hang up and call back when you've learned to speak English". I guess I'm tired of being treated like a second hand citizen. I'm sorry....was I being rude again?

You really need to use the spellcheck. Oh wait, is that me being an uncivilized American? Ooops.

You're generalizing, which is quite rude. How hypocritical.

you have noticed this throught the nature of your work, and this has given you insights into your fellow citizens that no one else has.
I think all you can take from it is that good manners and common courtesy are very important, and that even on the telephone we should treat people with respect.
My son and daughter have both worked in call centres, and they are subjected to abuse and bad manners every day. It wears people down.
So, come on, everyone, bring back good manners everywhere!
