He is second on the all time saves list by 18 do you think he is going to retire now? Gimme break plus the NL west is all about speed and defense that why he is so good for SD in giant Petco Park. If Rolen had been in at 3B the NL would have won. GO GIANTS

Trevor William Hoffman is only 37 years old, which, in baseball, is still an age where he can play 4 or five more years.
His diving sinkerball and killer changeup still cannot be matched. "It comes in like a fastball, so you swing like a fastball, but two seconds later, its in the catcher's mitt," says teammate Josh Barfield. Apparently all the other people in the league think the same way, the way they're swinging at those pitches.
The All star game? Unlucky, that's all I can say. Other than that dumb old All star game, Hoffman converted 24 of 25 saves this year, #3 in the National league.
If I am the Padres manager, Trevor William Hoffman is on my roster until - at the least - 2009.

I agree....I get so sad when players have such a great career but they stay around for way too long and so the last memory that people have of them isn't what they were capible of doing.I don't pay too much attension to T.Hoffman but I know he was an all-star this year so he obviously is good but if he is loosing his touch then he should go now so that he leaves on a good note.

No, he's still way too good of a pitcher to retire.
